2023-24 Annual Report
2023-24 saw the advancement of Roanoke’s community arts strategy, including a continuation of the Artist in Residence program, the integration of the Art Matters Grant program into the Artist Action Grant, and the integration of artist led strategies into creative neighborhood investment strategies.
Key investments during the year include neighborhood murals, the Arts Connect Neighbors program, and the Daisy Art Parade in preparation for the Daisy Arts neighborhood activation strategy.
2022-23: The Year of the Artist
In 2022 and 23, the Roanoke Arts Commission (RAC) aggregated a variety of funds to emphasize the role of creative Roanoke residents in making the community a better place. This report pulls together the outcomes of the Artist in Residence Program and the Art Matters Grant advancing justice, wellness, and inclusion. Both initiatives received funding through the National Endowment for the Arts. Policy changes advanced by the Roanoke Arts Commission now allow the RAC to use Percent for Art funds to hire artists to work along side city staff in planning and advancing community projects.
