| Describe the work including planned media, size and presentation format. (All art forms are accepted for this call, but there must be a physical representation of the work ready for display. Most often this is a framed and ready-to-hang two dimensional image.) | “Hidden in Plain Sight” is a three-dimensional hand forged and welded steel sculpture painted with oil-based paint in a realistic palette featuring Roanoke natives. The Pickerel Frog sits on the American Waterlily while the Orange Eastern Amberwing Dragonfly rests nearby atop the Narrow Leaf Cattail. This sculpture stands 30″ tall x 12″ wide x 12″ deep. |
| Describe your contemplative practice in relation to the work so far. | Not sure about this one. |
| Describe your engagement with nature in relation to this work so far. | I researched native plants and animals that are found in and near Tinkers Creek. I used the frog that lives on my back porch as a basic model to make the frog on this sculpture. I have hiked and canoed all over the US and Canada. I have lots of experience in settings like the one described in the book. I have always enjoyed being outdoors. |
| Describe your engagement with the text in relation to this work so far. | I listened to the book on YouTube. I found inspiration in the parts describing the creek itself. |
| What questions, or primary question, have arisen for you in pursuing the work so far? | What creatures live near Tinkers Creek? |
| What have you learned in the process so far? | 28 species of frogs are native to Virginia. Pickerel Frogs are the only native toxic frog species. They are found statewide and are in and around Pilgrims Creek. |
| If applicable, please describe any challenges that will prevent you from participating in the effort or completing the project on time. | I will complete this project on time. |
