| Describe the work including planned media, size and presentation format. (All art forms are accepted for this call, but there must be a physical representation of the work ready for display. Most often this is a framed and ready-to-hang two dimensional image.) | I am working between two pieces at present, both are 2D paintings/mixed media and of similar size at around 24×36. One features a personal moment on Tinker Creek, the other zooms in on an unforgettable moment from the book. There is a hint of both pieces viewable in the uploaded photo. |
| Describe your contemplative practice in relation to the work so far. | I have made personal space and time for this project that has allowed for me to center myself prior to creating in silence and deep concentration. |
| Describe your engagement with nature in relation to this work so far. | I have been able to spend time by the creek meditating, journaling, as well as sketching. |
| Describe your engagement with the text in relation to this work so far. | I have found myself going over the notes I made while reading the book, re-assessing some of my first impressions and interpretations. This has led me to writing down my new notions of what I believe Annie Dillard is conveying to the reader about the nature of . . . nature. |
| What questions, or primary question, have arisen for you in pursuing the work so far? | I have been pondering about the most effective ways for artists to take intangible concepts and give them form. Annie Dillard’s use of language in Pilgrim at Tinker Creek is a fine example. How does one take an observational truth and successfully share it through art? |
| What have you learned in the process so far? | Being able to diligently take one’s time and dive into the process of creation is worth it’s weight in gold! |
| If applicable, please describe any challenges that will prevent you from participating in the effort or completing the project on time. | n/a |
