| Describe the work including planned media, size and presentation format. (All art forms are accepted for this call, but there must be a physical representation of the work ready for display. Most often this is a framed and ready-to-hang two dimensional image.) | This sculpture is a relief sculpture, executed in collage and mixed media. The size is 22″x12″x2.5″. The work is framed and ready to hang. |
| Describe your contemplative practice in relation to the work so far. | The angel in the sculpture is an image from The Mérode Altarpiece, a Northern Renaissance triptych (three-paneled painting) of the Annunciation created by the workshop of Robert Campin between 1427–1432. It represents a reverence and contemplation of nature that permeates the book, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. |
| Describe your engagement with nature in relation to this work so far. | I spent many hours with my granddaughter, Gracie, swimming and catching minnows in Tinker Creek behind their house. |
| Describe your engagement with the text in relation to this work so far. | One of my favorite sections of the book is the beginning, where Annie hides pennies as a prize for curious passersby. Within the artwork are hidden pennies for the viewer to discover. |
| What questions, or primary question, have arisen for you in pursuing the work so far? | My primary concern was creating a work that was not a literal depiction of the creek but contained the image of a flowing body of water to represent Tinker Creek. |
| What have you learned in the process so far? | In revisiting my reading of the book, I paid attention to the portions of the book that stirred my imagination the most. My favorite part was the pennies, along with the general reverence Dillard expressed for nature. |
| If applicable, please describe any challenges that will prevent you from participating in the effort or completing the project on time. | none |
