Please describe the outcomes of your activity. What did you learn? What made you the most proud of the effort?

I got to meet the most lovely gentle people. I set up next to Marianne who had a sound meditation activity. Unfortunately the event felt a little bit disorganized. There were not that many festival goers and people seemed to not know that Marianne and I were there. I got to paint 8 people and toward the end of my time at the festival (I was there from 3-6) people started signing up for portraits and word seemed to have gotten out. I think if I could plan it again I would have signed up to paint portraits later on in the evening because that’s when the party seemed to really start. Interacting with kids who were interested in painting made me proud of the effort. I love the idea that other people might be inspired to make art because of my 5 minute portrait booth. I also love providing the opportunity for people to be painted- it’s a unique feeling to be seen in that way.

From your perspective, what would be a good next step for the neighborhood in building engagement and momentom?

That’s a great question. I saw a lot of people set up chairs outside the orange fence of the festival. They wanted to be a part of the festivities but perhaps could not afford a ticket. I think it would be great to provide a festival atmosphere that does not require a ticket purchase. I also think there could have been more advertising for the event- the more the merrier.
