Tell us about you, the writer. Please include a few sentences of biographical information.

Professionally, I am passionate about creating compelling stories that resonate with their target audience — and that drive action.

Creatively, I have written about the music industry, commercial real estate, architecture, the beverage industry, and contributed articles to yoga, fitness, entertainment, education and travel websites.

Currently, I am a marketing manager at EPRO Services, a leading provider of waterproofing and vapor intrusion mitigation systems. Here, I manage the development and execution of marketing campaigns, collateral, and web content, and also coordinate with external agencies and vendors: I have a proven track record of increasing brand awareness, generating leads, and supporting sales goals.

Please describe your artistic practice including the genres you typically work in.

I like writing “creative nonfiction,” and turning everyday observations into small “stories” or just writing what I see. I usually write in prose and I love making things read in a beautiful way, achieved with word choice, some metaphor, but also I like to be direct. It really depends on how I feel.
I used to love writing music reviews because I could describe why I found something amazing in the hopes of other people also finding it amazing.
Writing is always communication for me, and it’s fun to write more creatively when it’s not work-related.

Please describe why you are interested in this project and what you hope to learn.

I lived in New York City for around 5 years, and it was somewhere I had wanted to live all of my life. My familiar ties to the area are strong; my mother is originally from Queens, and my great grandmother could remember coming to Ellis Island from Eastern Europe. Once I’d settled there, naturally I needed to use public transportation to get around. Much of my writing was inspired by my experiences on the subway, waiting for the subway, people I saw on the train, or scenarios I imagined while I was riding or waiting. When I heard about this project, I thought it would be really fun and could provide a great deal of inspiration in the same way that my commutes once did.

What about Roanoke inspires your creativity?

I find that wherever I go and have lived, there are always people with stories to tell, situations to observe. So like any other city, there are people and places to creatively represent. I have never lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains – or any mountains, for that matter – and I know there is a deep history here in and around Roanoke. I would like to tap into that and learn while interpreting my environment however inspiration comes.
