“Jessie Baker was a prize fighter; pretty good I was told. But later on during his boxing career, he lost one of his eyes in a boxing match. Shortly after that, Jessie opened a gym on Salem Avenue downtown in Roanoke. It was called
PAL—Police Athletic League. Jessie trained young men how to box and self-defense.”
