This piece is about how the mountains surrounding Roanoke have a deep, ancient, grounding energy, and that energy flows up to the sky and into the ether. That natural energetic flow keeps the inspiration and creativity high in the Roanoke area, and that’s what I wanted to capture with this mural.
Maggie Perrin-Key is a contemporary artist who’s bright paintings explore abstract elements of our physical world in an effort to build relationships with the subconscious. Her organic abstract oil and acrylic paintings investigate the difference between observational and intuitive processes, memory, and sentimentality. Perrin-Key has been showing her work regionally since completing her undergraduate studies in Painting in 2017 at Hollins University. She is also a muralist, participating in community mural events, public art projects as well as bringing her abstract shapes to over life size on walls and outside of buildings.
