Roanoke’s arts and cultural organizations are meaningful contributors to our economy, the quality of our lives, and our collective identity. Many events are carefully structured to address important issues, challenge our thinking, and celebrate key aspects of the many cultures in the community.
Attending one of these performances, exhibits, or events just might provide inspiration as you’re considering projects that help advance the community.
So get out there! While many are already free, we’ll pick up the cost of the tickets if you attend an event that helps you think through your work, our community, and the role of the arts in our lives.
HOW IT WORKS
- You pay for, and attend, a fee-based event along with a colleague, collaborator, friend, or family member (Limit 2 tickets, only one application per artist).
- You submit the Inspired! application, telling us how the experience shaped your thinking about your work, a project, and our community. (You’ll also be required to submit a snapshot or pdf of your tickets.)
- We reimburse you for tickets up to a total of $100. And we’ll even throw in up to 20 bucks to help pay for the sitter, transportation, or a snack after the show if your tickets are below the $100 threshold.
To be eligible, you must be registered for the YEAR OF THE ARTIST training series and attending sessions in real time or watching the posted videos. We also ask that you be seriously considering applying for one of the YOTA grant opportunities.
We have enough funds for 30-40 of these small grants. But who knows…if we see them having an impact, we can probably find more. The grants will be first come, first served and are paid on a reimbursement basis.

Here are just a few upcoming examples of arts and cultural organizations helping to reflect upon, engage, and shape our community. Look for talk backs, lectures, and educational events related to these productions and exhibits.
