The Empathy Project – In the Community

Gun violence impacts the entire community, and it requires a community-wide response. Photographer Jennifer Hayward’s portraits capture the determination, commitment and love of local leaders active in the fight against gun violence. Meet them here.

Empathy Project performances, exhibitions, and conversations will take place throughout 2024. If you would like to be part of this ongoing community conversation, please contact City of Roanoke Youth and Gang Violence Prevention Coordinator Christopher Roberts at 540-853-5572.

Look for the billboards below around our community. The project is in partnership with Berglund Center and Lamar Advertising of Roanoke-Lynchburg. All images by team member Jennifer Hayward, a photographer and the social media and content manager for Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
