» Artist Opportunities in the Healing Arts at Carilion Clinic

The arts and humanities are doing important work in wellness and healthcare, and there are avenues for artist involvement. Locally Carilion Clinic’s ongoing Healing Arts Program has several opportunities.

  1. Artists with ties to Virginia are invited to create an interactive healing sculpture that can travel to Carilion healthcare sites in the region. Submissions are due at 5 PM on August 31. Download the call here. Want to learn more about Healing Arts’ history in this area? Read about the Burden Boat here.
  2. Teaching artists skilled in sharing creativity with others are invited to apply to provide experiences that benefit adult patients and caregivers, demonstrations in public spaces, and occasional workshops for employees. Artists-in-Residence work with various departments in Carilion’s clinical settings to determine how best to facilitate artistic experiences that promote healing. Visual artists such as painters and sculptors are especially encouraged to apply. A stipend will be provided as well as orientation and supplies. Time commitment is 8 hours weekly to amount to 312 hours over a 9-month period. A background check is required.  Download an application here, or contact the Healing Arts Program at healingarts@carilionclinic.org for more information. Applications received by July 31, 2021 will be considered for a current opportunity at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA.
  3. Carilion Clinic employees are invited to participate in Healing the Essential Soul, an evening series happening five times this summer. For information and registration, contact healingarts@carilionclinic.org.
